In Kenya, SAPI implements a vital activity focused on the distribution of menstrual hygiene kits to girls in schools and within communities. This initiative aims to combat menstrual poverty, a major cause of school absenteeism and social stigma for young girls. By providing reusable sanitary pads, soap, underwear, and information on menstrual health, SAPI helps improve the dignity, self- confidence, and school attendance of beneficiaries. The activity is also accompanied by community awareness sessions to break taboos surrounding menstruation and promote a more inclusive and girl- friendly school environment.
SAPI is deeply committed to defending the rights of children and adolescents at risk of social exclusion, especially children in conflict with the law and children at risk of statelessness and violence, and works to improve their welfare by providing them with greater development potential through innovative and sustainable projects in the areas of education, health, resilience and food security. In addition, SAPI works with awareness raising in target groups on available opportunities for economic development as to increase their chances of a better future.
SAPI reached 9 primary schools targeting vulnerable teenage girls and provided them with sanitary towels, therefore improving school attendance.
We managed to provide 845 girls with sanitary towels, thereby positively impacting their reproductive health.
SAPI Kenya provided 1,230 teenage boys and girls with sexual and reproductive education, including sexual behavior change in the schools and communities visited.
